MUST-SEE events during this year’s Fallas
After a long wait, we can now finally say… Las Fallas is here! After two atypical years, the Valencian festival par excellence, Las Fallas, is back and better than ever.
The streets of Valencia have already begun to fill with majestic monuments, music, colour… and lots of gunpowder! But hope, smiles and joy too. Because this is Las Fallas, a wonderful and unique festival that makes València a city worth visiting.
During the period of Las Fallas, the “terreta” (Valencian nickname for the city) bursts with life and things to do. Every corner of the city hides a magical experience worthy of your time. Want to know about the things you can’t miss out on at this year’s Fallas? Well, here at UNIQUE we have compiled a selection of our favourite things to do. Make yourself comfortable, grab a pen and paper, and let’s get started.
The unique “Castillos de Fuegos” (Fire Castles) and “Nit de Foc”.
Undoubtedly, one of the most exciting things you can experience during the Fallas festival are the Castillos de Fuegos and the “Nit de Foc”. Every night from the 12th to the 18th of March, the best pyrotechnics will be on display, filling the sky of Valencia with light and colour. The culmination of all of this is the unmissable “Nit de Foc”, celebrated on the 18th, with impressive fireworks. A sensational spectacle that will thrill you to the core.
Learn more with guided tours
Las Fallas is a festival with a history that will surprise you. To learn about it in depth, the best thing to do is to go on one of the special guided tours. You will discover all the secrets of the festival, the tradition, the music and even the typical costumes.
You can choose between the morning tour and the afternoon tour, both of which take place on the main days of Las Fallas. If you are left wanting more, we recommend the night tour so you don’t miss out on the spectacular cremà (burning of the paper monuments), held on the 19th of March. These tours are suitable for children and adults, with discounts for the latter, including free admission for children under 4 years old.
Take the opportunity to visit and learn more about the city.
The city of the river Turia is full of incredible sights and a magic atmosphere, so our recommendation is to take advantage of your visit to learn more about the area. How? By visiting spectacular places such as the City of Arts and Sciences, the historic centre, the Church of San Nicolás and the Bioparc, among others.
You can also take the opportunity to visit the best restaurants in Valencia, enjoy a delicious wood-fired paella and fall in love with the city’s gastronomy. The culinary culture here is incomparable and involves typical dishes which are sure to make your mouth water.
Visit the Ninot Exhibition
The Ninot Exhibition features the most impressive monuments of Las Fallas, authentic works of art that you will fall in love with. Unfortunately, however, only two will survive the burning, so you’ll have to visit the Science Museum before the 15th of March to be able to see them all and vote for your favourite.
This includes the Ninot Infantil exhibition, which your children in particular will love. In fact, it is an excellent option for all ages and a cheap and fun outing for the whole family, as it has a discount for groups and a reduced admission fee for those under 12 and over 65.
Enjoy the Mascletas
At 2pm from the 1st to the 19th of March, the city will come to a standstill to enjoy one of the most typical events of the Fallas festival, the Mascletà, an authentic spectacle of noise, gunpowder and colours. However, if you are someone who prefers to enjoy the night, we suggest an alternative option. The best of Las Fallas is also to be found in the city’s different neighbourhoods, which have night-time mascletàs on the 5th and 12th of March. The 5th will see them take place in the Zaidía, Nazaret and Jesús neighbourhood, while on the 12th they will be held in Camins al Grau, Campanar and Benicalap. Come and see and enjoy a unique experience with the best fireworks show on the planet.
We’re looking forward to seeing you!
